Six tips to optimise your Wi-Fi
-
-
The best place to position your b-box or Internet Box is in the centre of your home, in an open space (not inside a cupboard), at least one metre above the floor. This will give you better coverage for your wireless network.
-
Some electrical devices, such as microwave ovens, baby monitors or alarm systems, can interfere with your wireless network. If possible, keep your b-box, Internet Box, computer or smartphone away from these devices.
-
Older devices (more than 5 years old) can slow down newer ones. If possible, connect them using an Ethernet cable, or turn off the wireless connection when they are not in use.
-
The quality of your connection also depends on how you use it: downloading large files (for example torrents) or using several devices at the same time can affect the quality of your wireless network.

Key Wi-Fi terms to know
-
Wi-Fi connects you to the internet via your Internet Box or b-box: ideal at home for browsing, watching videos or gaming without using your mobile data.
4G/5G uses the mobile network: convenient when you’re on the go or if your connection is slow or unavailable. -
There are different channels or frequency bands.
Which one is the fastest?
- 2.4 GHz: wider range, but slower.
- 5 GHz: faster, but with a shorter range.
- 6 GHz: even faster (multi-gigabit) than 5 GHz. It is only available with Internet Box+ and if your smartphone or computer is compatible.
What is Smart Wi-Fi used for?
Smart Wi-Fi automatically connects your device to the best available frequency. You no longer have to choose a frequency yourself.
-
A mobile hotspot lets you use your smartphone like a modem. It shares its 4G or 5G connection with your other devices (such as a tablet or a computer).
Why use it?
- When you’re on the go and need a wireless network;
- At home if your box is not working.
-
The Wi-Fi Booster is a device that extends the range of the signal in your home.
Why use it?
- Useful in large houses or apartments.
- For areas with poor coverage.
-
An Ethernet cable connects a device (such as a computer or a TV) directly to your Internet Box or b-box.
Why use it?
- It is more stable than a wireless connection.
- It works better through concrete walls, metal surfaces or glass.
