“If you want to develop a site in Russia, then the management has to maintain short communication lines”, says Harry Vandemenschbrugge straight off. Harry is IT manager at Vergokan, the Belgian market leader in the manufacture of cable support systems. “But the many flights began to weigh on the management, not to mention the travel expenses. So we started looking for alternatives. We soon hit upon video conferencing.”
Harry took his time to examine all the options on the market in depth and talk to various partners. “I always compare, even though we’ve been a Proximus customer for years. A few years ago, for instance, when we wanted to set up a private network among all our sites in Belgium, I first carried out a large-scale comparative study. Eventually we went for the Proximus Explore private network.”
He chose Proximus for video conferencing, too. “The Proximus Polycom Huddle Rooms quite simply offer the best value for money. In a separate, small meeting room, the Huddle Room, there is a camera, a 75-inch screen and a star-shaped table microphone. The image and sound in this Huddle Room are perfect. What’s more, the price is excellent. We didn’t need to know much more to take the plunge. We are very satisfied with this new office set-up.
The management still flies back and forth to Russia, because video conferencing can’t match the added value of actual contact. But not as often any more. I can’t give you any real figures about the savings we make here. But savings there will be. No doubt about it.”
