Innovation through sustainable technology is the answer to the major challenges facing cities: optimum service provision to citizens, especially with regard to mobility, environment and energy management. The aging population and explosive growth of urbanization, in combination with limited financial means, are making this challenge even more difficult. As an IT expert, Proximus wants to use its know-how to help cities create smart solutions because a smart city is a great city to live in.
Belfius Smart City Award
This ambition also inspired Belfius and its partner Knack/Le Vif, supported by Accenture and Proximus to organize a competition to find the ‘smartest city’. The Smart City Award will go to the most creative sustainable solution in one out of ten nominated cities. Voting opens on 4 November, and the award will be presented on 2 December 2015.
All workers and residents of a Smart City are passengers on the digital train. This is why Proximus is organizing free workshops to narrow the digital gap.
