I attach a lot of importance to a good conversation with fellow businesspeople. I often come across them at events or conferences, but I get the best advice from personal conversations. It may be during a lunch, or equally well when we’re out for a walk. Changing environments can create different dynamics.
I recently attended a seminar by speaker/coach Carl Van de Velde. He manages to generate a level of energy that makes you want to give your company an extra boost again. It forces you to think about how you organize your company. Not working in the company, but for the company: that's often the core message.
‘Fanatical Prospecting’ by Jeb Blount is brimming with tips to improve your approach to prospecting, a very important part of selling. Don't just look after your existing customers, but actively go looking for new ones. I often find out about new management books through my husband, who is a partner in the firm. Every weekend, we try to go jogging or walking together. That gives us time to talk about things like this together.
