"With fiber, I can stream soccer while my wife binge-watches her soaps"

It's a sunny afternoon as Dries leads us through his house to the cozy back patio. There, he dives right in. "Fiber is everywhere these days in the newspapers and on the news. You can't miss it. So I was already pretty well aware of the many technical advantages, such as the higher speed and more stable connection."

But he only switched when a fiber company showed him the Proximus prices. "I honestly had nothing to complain about with my previous provider," he explains.

Undisturbed binge-watching

Moreover, Proximus is the only operator to deploy fiber on a large scale all the way to the inside of its customers’ homes. With other providers, the fiber connection is brought to the street, and a coaxial connection takes over to the inside. This makes a significant difference in the quality of the connection, especially for a binge-watcher like Dries.

"We watch a lot of soaps here at home on various streaming services such as Netflix, Disney+, and others. With Proximus fiber, my wife Charlotte and I can binge-watch all our favorite TV shows without any buffering. The quality is always great. I can even stream a soccer game while Charlotte watches her TV shows."

Quick installation with extras

Dries was also pleasantly surprised by how fast and efficient the switch was. "I didn't have to do anything myself," he says. "Proximus took all the worries out of my hands. All I had to do was sign a few documents. They took care of all the administration for me."

The installation itself also went off without a hitch. "It was done in an hour," Dries laughs. But the installer even went a step further, he explains. "Because our house is a new construction, the Wi-Fi connection used to be lackluster. When I told the installer, he immediately installed a Wi-Fi Booster. As a result, we now have good Wi-Fi everywhere in the house. Today, we even use Wi-Fi to make phone calls in the house.

Reliability and stability

No latency or interference has bothered Dries since he switched to fiber. "Although I have to admit that we don't pay much attention to it because we rarely work from home. But for those who often work from home or game regularly, I imagine fiber can make a big difference."

So, it comes as no surprise to Dries that his employer, too, is switching to fiber. "I am a technical employee at Aquafin, which is responsible for the development and management of the water treatment infrastructure in Flanders. So, we manage a lot of critical data. Then, of course, an ultra-fast and reliable connection is very important."
