Privacy notice concerning the 2G outphasing
1. Scope in general
Your privacy is important to you and to us, which is why we want to be transparent about what we do with your personal data.
In this document, you can find information on the processing of your personal data by Proximus in the context of the 2G out phasing. This information includes what personal data we collect about you, how we process your personal data and with whom it will be shared. We also describe what your data subject rights are and how you can exercise them.
2. Who is the data controller?
The controller of the processing of your personal data described in this privacy notice is Proximus SA under public law, with its registered office at Bd du Roi Albert II, 27, 1030 Brussels, Belgium - registered at the ECB under number 0202.239.951.
3. For what purposes does Proximus use your personal data?
Your personal data are collected and processed for the purpose listed in this section. For this purpose, you will find an overview of the personal data that is collected and processed, the legal basis of the processing activity, the retention period of the personal data and the partners with whom personal data is shared.
What personal data will Proximus use?
- Collected data: Identification and contact information
- Observed or generated data: Personal data in the context of electronic communications. Technical identifier and Volume usage information.
What justifies this processing activity?
This processing is necessary for the performance of the contract to which you are a party (art. 6(1)(b) GDPR) or our legitimate interest (art. 6(1)(f) GDPR) to monitor and ensure the good performance of our telecommunication network services we provide to end-users of our professional customers and to MVNOs. . The processing of traffic data is allowed by Article 125, §1, 2°, of the Belgian law on Electronic Communications Act because the processing is necessary to ensure the optimal performance of our telecommunications networks and services.
How long will Proximus keep these data?
Proximus will keep your personal data only for as long as necessary to manage the 2G network phase-out, which is planned for end of June 2029. Non-aggregated usage traffic data will be deleted once the necessary counting and analysis have been completed. The remaining data used for the 2G phase-out will be reviewed and refreshed at least every six months, so that numbers and devices that have in the meanwhile become compliant are removed from the dataset.
With whom does Proximus share these data?
Proximus may share the personal data necessary for the 2G network phase-out with the relevant Mobile Virtual Network Operators (MVNOs), so that they can identify and contact their impacted customers, and with Enterprise Customers, where necessary for the management of their contractual relationship with Proximus. Only the data necessary for these purposes will be shared. The data will not be shared with any other third parties.
To provide you with a fast, high-performance and sustainable mobile network, Mobile operators in Belgium are progressively preparing for the phase-out of their 2G networks. Proximus currently plans to switch off its 2G network in end of June 2029. This will free up capacity to strengthen and extend faster 4G and 5G networks and improve the overall performance of our mobile network and services.
Once the 2G network is switched off, devices that rely on 2G connectivity may no longer be able to connect to the mobile network and may need to be replaced or upgraded. In certain cases, a handset may still support some functionalities but may no longer be able to make emergency calls.
It is therefore important, for safety and security reasons, that customers using devices impacted by the 2G phase-out are appropriately informed in advance. In particular, where a device may no longer allow emergency calls after the 2G switch-off, Proximus wants to ensure that the relevant customers are informed so that they can take the necessary steps before the network is switched off.
For this purpose, Proximus processes certain information relating to the mobile number and device used on its network in order to identify customers and devices that may be impacted by the 2G phase-out and to enable the appropriate communication to the customers concerned.
