Proximus was the first operator in Belgium to deploy mobile networks using 2G, 3G, 4G and now 5G.

Proximus is also the only Belgian operator to connect your business end-to-end with fiber, offering multi-gig Internet speeds thanks to 10 Gbps technology.

We now cover a large part of the national territory thanks to constant investments in the extension and improvement of our networks.

“Specifically, the quality of the network enables Proximus to offer an optimal data transmission experience thanks to very low latency and extensive coverage in Belgium and in businesses (indoor/outdoor coverage), as well as superior communication quality without echo, distortion or interruption. To drive innovation for our customers, Proximus is committed to building the best fixed and mobile gigabit network in Belgium by investing heavily in fiber and 5G technologies”, Nathalie De Backer, Mobile Solutions Lead, Proximus NXT, explains.

Fixed and mobile convergence

In zones where fiber is not available to provide fast, reliable connectivity, Proximus NXT offers Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) technology, which provides a high-speed Internet connection over radio waves. In practice, modems connect to mobile base stations to provide Internet access via Wi-Fi or Ethernet.

The combination of fixed and mobile offers a number of advantages and guarantees a stable, reliable connection anywhere in Belgium. It also offers great flexibility, as the modems can be moved as required, for example to a temporary construction site or in a new business park.

The future is now: 5G

Downloading and browsing are faster and the connection is more reliable with 5G, which will be essential for data-intensive business applications that require enhanced security.

By acquiring more spectrum than its competitors in 2022, Proximus will be able to offer much faster download and upload speeds, further grow its lead in network quality over the competition and continue to provide an unrivaled mobile experience in Belgium.

In addition, in April 2024, Proximus signed an agreement with the Liège-based NRB to acquire more 5G spectrum in the 3,600 MHz band, which will provide an optimized mobile experience and reduce the risk of network saturation in certain locations.

In addition to speed and security, 5G offers latency, or response time, of a few milliseconds, which is essential, for example, for applications with drones or in emergency situations that require real-time data transfers.

Co-creation and innovation with 5G labs

“For Proximus NXT, 5G is a true driver of innovation. Combined with other technologies such as AI (Artificial Intelligence), VR (Virtual Reality), IoT (Internet of Things), cloud and edge computing, 5G opens up a world of revolutionary applications for businesses. Proximus NXT already offers a wide range of 5G solutions to meet our customers' needs”, Nathalie points out.

To stimulate business innovation, customers can test their business applications with Proximus NXT 5G in 5G labs such as A6K in Charleroi or Fabriek Logistiek in Zwijnaarde. These 5G labs are available to customers in various sectors such as logistics, media, healthcare, education, industry, engineering, construction, etc. In this way, customers and Proximus NXT co-create innovative 5G-based applications in their sector.

Together with its ICT partners, Proximus NXT brings expertise in Internet of Things (IoT), cloud and security, as well as Artificial Intelligence (AI). The combination of 5G with drones and AI opens up opportunities in surveillance, inventory management, facility inspection, mapping and more. Virtual reality and augmented reality make it easier to maintain equipment and train machine operators.

Specific technology: Network Slicing

Network Slicing divides the public 5G network into smaller segments to reserve part of the network capacity for specific and/or critical applications, such as online electronic transactions. This solution was successfully tested during “Winter in Dendermonde”. Network Slicing ensures the smooth flow of electronic payments, without the risk of network saturation, during high-traffic events.

In addition to payments, Network Slicing is also an ideal solution for mission-critical communication and collaboration applications. Thanks to the recently signed partnership with Airbus, and by combining Network Slicing with Airbus' Agnet MCx solution (Push-to-Talk, secure instant messaging, live video sharing, etc.), Proximus NXT offers its customers unprecedented communication solutions with security, reliability and performance for sectors such as industry, transport and logistics.

In anticipation of the commercial launch of the Network Slicing technology, Proximus NXT offers the Event Reservation solution, which reserves a portion of the network capacity for the customer's application that also works with 4G devices. This solution has been used successfully for events such as the Cirque@Taque festival.

Reliability, real time and security: Mobile Private Networks (MPN)

Proximus NXT is also investing in Mobile Private Networks, that will enable enterprises to take advantage from 5G locally for specific needs. These end-to-end mobile private networks deploy a private 5G network at a site. They combine secure control of the private network, isolated from the public network, with the benefits of 5G: high bandwidth and real-time data transfer.

Such private 5G networks are essential for critical customer applications that require real-time data exchange and local processing, which a 4G network cannot guarantee.

In the logistics, industrial and transportation sectors, a private 5G mobile network will allow processes to be optimized and automated in complete security.

It is also possible to deploy a private 5G network in a smart building for metering, emergency assistance or evacuation in case of fire, accident and more.

Unlocking new potential with no limits

With their low latency, high bandwidth and complementary Wi-Fi integration, 5G private networks provide the foundation for your next steps in your automation and digitalization.

“At Proximus NXT, we focus on personalization, listening and quality of service. We're here to support our customers in their mobile projects,” Benjamin emphasizes. “More than 400 experts guarantee business customers an optimal mobile experience, combining a personalized offer and services with tailored advice and support.”

How to optimize the mobile experience?

  1. Proximus NXT offers the e-SIM or “digital” SIM card integrated into your smartphone, PC or tablet. It replaces the “physical” SIM card that is manually inserted into the device. This e-SIM can hold multiple phone numbers on a single card. It can also be activated digitally and remotely, for quick and secure installation. Finally, the e-SIM enables group activation of a subscription on multiple devices at the same time, simplifying the customer experience in the event of multiple activations.
  2. Another solution is the leasing of mobile devices (Engage Packs), giving customers access to the latest devices for a fixed amount per month with no upfront investment. Leasing has the advantage of being a planned operating expense, that can be deducted as a business expense. Leasing is also sustainable and environmentally friendly, as the device is refurbished at the end of its life, thus reducing its carbon footprint. Mobile device leasing also offers simplified management as the invoice includes the rental cost and service from one of Proximus NXT's exclusive partners. Insurance and helpdesk are also included, providing peace of mind in the event of loss, theft or damage to a device.
  3. Proximus NXT also offers transparent billing management, with clear, detailed invoices, flexible payment options and split billing between business and personal use. Customers have the flexibility to define which costs are paid by their organization and which are paid by their employees, providing total cost control and empowering their employees.
  4. Finally, Proximus NXT offers a range of digital tools, such as centralized online management of the mobile device fleet via Mobile Number Management, a self-service tool on the MyProximus Enterprise web portal for activating new numbers, options such as roaming.

At Proximus NXT, we focus on personalization, listening and quality of service.

Optimal security: 3 layers on top of each other

“The security of large corporate customers' mobile devices is very important to Proximus NXT,” explains Benjamin. In practice, Proximus NXT offers three overlapping layers of security to ensure optimal security:

  1. First, network security, which includes preventing corporate data leakage and remote security management and control. To reinforce security, Proximus monitors traffic and blocks any suspicious activity.
  2. Second, security linked to the mobile subscription with a security application, Mobile Thread Defense (MTD), which detects and blocks threats. This application can be integrated with Mobile Device Management (MDM) or Unified Endpoint Management (UEM), which enables remote configuration and protection of mobile devices, so that employees can work in complete security. Mobile Device Management (MDM) is a layer of security software that is remotely configured on mobile device applications.
  3. Finally, the integration of security applications and features from device manufacturers such as Apple and Samsung, like the Samsung Knox security software.

Peace of mind

When a mobile device is broken, lost or stolen, customers report it through their dedicated point of contact, exclusive partner, customer service or self-service web portal.

The technical service ensures employee mobility, business continuity and peace of mind, by providing repair or replacement services.

Online management

“The MyProximus Enterprise unified self-service platform allows customers to manage their mobile services online such as subscriptions, options, usage tracking and billing with payment options, shared personal/professional use etc.

Using security applications and device protection on this platform they can perform registration, localization, locking and more. Finally, they can order new devices over the web and submit their request online in the event of a query or incident.

Our services are pragmatic and flexible,” concludes Benjamin.
