During the yearly Think NXT event, Kanaal Z interviews Wilhelmine Dubuisson, Hybrid Cloud Solution Sales at Proximus NXT, on challenges and opportunities for women in IT.
Wilhelmine explains that the lack of women in technology is a significant issue, with only 17% of women working in this sector in Belgium in 2024. This disparity is due to a variety of factors, including the gender pay gap, work-life balance challenges, and the absence of female role models. Despite these challenges, there are successful women in tech and numerous programs like Women4Cyber and BeCode that support women in the industry.
Diversity in teams leads to innovative solutions and better decision-making, as different perspectives and experiences are brought together. Studies show that companies embracing diversity perform better, with a productivity increase of about 36%.
To improve the situation, companies should promote women to management positions, adopt diversity policies, and provide training. Networking and continuous education are crucial for women pursuing careers in IT. Encouraging diversity not only benefits women but also enhances overall business performance.
