During the yearly Think NXT event, Kanaal Z interviews Frédéric Renette, 5G Business Development Lead at Proximus NXT, about the new applications of 5G private networks in the media sector.
Frédéric describes the innovative pilot project Wallicast, which applies the benefits of 5G technology to live media broadcasting.
Cameras are wirelessly connected to a 5G private network and can be operated remotely. The video signal is sent directly to the control room. This makes on-site installation much less burdensome, both in terms of equipment and personnel deployment. This results in lower costs and more flexibility in broadcasting sports and cultural events. The technology provides high-definition images and greater coverage of events that would otherwise receive less attention.
The goal of this pilot project is to replicate the proof of concept on an industrial scale and offer it to media companies, sports federations, and cultural event organizers. Through collaboration with Proximus NXT and Proximus Media House, a robust solution can be provided that will transform the future of live broadcasts.
