The future is digital. So more and more companies and private individuals find it important to have a fiber optics connection. Fiber optics is the technology of the future. What do architects and consultancy firms need to know to install this new technology properly? And what are the differences between the two?
- Fiber is more energy-efficient
You do not need to install any active equipment in the network for fiber optics. So the overall energy consumption falls, as do the operating and maintenance costs.
- Fiber is faster
A fiber optics line supports far higher data speeds than the traditional copper connections. What is more, fiber makes this speed possible for both uploading and downloading. Handy if you often have to send and receive large files. With fiber, for example, you can download a file of 40 MB in barely one second.
- Technology of the future
Fiber does not suffer from electromagnetic disruptions. The proximity of antennae or electricity cables does not impact on the speed with which the data are pumped along the line.
- The installation is different
Fiber consists of very fine glass threads on which laser light is switched on and off. So more precision is needed when installing fiber optics.
- You can share fiber
You can share the capacity of fiber optics among several users. A shared fiber connection like this – known as shared fiber – meets the needs of both private individuals and small and medium-sized businesses. You do not have to provide for a separate connection for them.
Demanding technical applications, such as data centers and big businesses, take up more capacity. In these cases, you’d do well to provide a dedicated fiber connection, a separate fiber connection per user.
