What is the Internet of Things (IoT)?

When objects, machines and applications are all connected to a network, they can exchange data and act more intelligently. Possible IoT applications include:

Analysis of

  • air quality
  • temperature
  • humidity
  • frequency of use of specific rooms
  • etc.

Smart meters for

  • electricity
  • gas
  • water
  • renewable energy

Only send maintenance people when necessary.

Volume monitors in

  • glass / trash containers
  • oil / fuel tanks
  • food containers

Optimize collection routes and times.

Tracking devices to identify

  • shocks / vibration
  • movement / immobilisation
  • location of specific objects

…and lots more!

How does it work?

We offer you all the necessary building blocks for a customized Internet of Things solution:

These are only a few of the many IoT products in our large offer. To discover which IoT products we can provide to further boost your business, please contact your account manager or our sales team.

Connectivity

For all your IoT applications, our experts can provide you with the right combination of LoRa® and existing M2M (2G/3G/4G), Bluetooth and Wi-Fi solutions.

Why mobile data (M2M)?

  • High quantities of data at high speed
  • Compliant with 3GPP standards with extra security options
  • SIM based (2G, 3G, 4G)
  • Reliable network with worldwide roaming

Why LoRa®?

  • 2-way connection: object sends data and receives feedback
  • Easy to install sensors with long lifespan
  • Good security via triple encryption

LoRa® (Long Range) is a network that transports small quantities of data between objects and systems with ultra-low power.

LoRa® currently covers Belgium (Flanders, Brussels, & major cities in Wallonia) and Luxembourg. The roll-out in the rest of Wallonia is on-going.

I'm interested in LoRa®

How can you start with IoT?

You are a user

Contact us

  • There are two different ways to get started:
    • You can co-create a project with us, using our IoT and other assets. In this mode we will guide you to choose the right hardware, the ideal connectivity for the specific conditions of the use case and the application to add value for your business. Often this means a complete integration into your back-end systems, such as SAP or SCADA.
    • We can also refer you to the best partner to solve any business challenge you may have. In this case, please consult the section “Domains and Partners” of this page.
  • First conversations: in an explorative conversation our experts analyse how IoT can improve your company. In addition the scope of the project will be defined and how a successful business case can be realized.
  • Bringing the players together: within our strong ecosystem of partners the ideal players will be identified to contribute to the project. Afterwards a workshop will be set up to determine what level of integration will result in the highest level of optimization.
  • Roll-out of the project:
    • Concept phase: during this phase the IoT infrastructure and application will be tested as well as visualized. Frequently evaluation conversations will occur, after which changes will be done and analysed.
    • Complete integration: based on the predefined scope of the project a complete roll-out of the project will occur. Naturally the collaboration will not stop here and clients can continue to count on follow-up and customer service.
You are a partner
  • Contact us via the contact form.
  • First explorative conversations: our experts will hold a conversation with the potential partner to analyse his solution and what he wants to achieve through the partnership. Afterwards the possible types of connectivity and IoT platforms will be discussed.
  • Clearly define the solution: based on the needs and wants our experts will propose a way of working together. Over time the technical and business collaboration will be evaluated and based on this evaluation clear arrangements will be defined.
  • On boarding on the IoT platform: first a partner contract will be signed, where after network specific hardware (SIM cards or sensors) will be sold and the on boarding on our IoT platform will take place. Naturally the collaboration will not stop here and clients can continue to count on follow-up and customer service.
You are a developer
  • Buy a development kit: more information about this development kit can be found on the website of Proximus EnCo. This allows a developer to take its first steps in the promising world of IoT.
  • Explorative conversation and additional aid: the Proximus EnCo team will help developers on their way and discuss current projects. This allows them to put those that are doing similar projects in contact with one another.
  • Future prospect: finally we will analyse the next steps of the project. Developers will be able to offer their solutions on an online marketplace and integrate certain solutions of Proximus and other members of the Proximus EnCo community.

Customer stories

Economise with a more efficient energy management

In our cities and municipalities there is still a large potential gain in durability, by using better energy management in buildings. It’s therefor not surprising that applications of energy monitoring are on the rise. Such as the online platform of the start-up Opinum in Wallonia.

Smart glass containers thanks to the Internet of Things

In the region of Mons, the intercommunale Hygea tests sensors to make glass containers intelligent.  This offers many advantages such as a more efficient collection, no more containers that are too full, etc.

Environmental monitoring

Cities and municipalities must become more intelligent. Proximus offers many solutions to help them with this. Many applications are being build thanks to the new LoRa network. For example, a new project in Ixelles measures the air quality in the streets.
