Activate and use the Visual Voicemail

With Visual Voicemail, you can view and manage your audio messages right from your mobile phone screen. That's convenient!

You must activate the Visual Voicemail service before using it.

You can:

  • Get the list of audio messages.
  • Listen to the message of your choice by selecting it from the list.
  • Rewind, pause, fast forward.
  • View the name and number of the person who left you a message.
  • Add a contact to your address book.
  • Save or share audio messages.

Visual Voicemail is not available for all mobile phones.

Android devices (except Samsung devices)

As of Phone by Google app v132 (release starting 3rd of June 2024)

Visual Voicemail is already available for this devices:

  • Galaxy S23 FE 5G
  • Galaxy S23 5G
  • Galaxy S23+ 5G
  • Galaxy S23 Ultra 5G
  • Galaxy S24
  • Galaxy S24+
  • Galaxy S24 Ultra
  • Galaxy Z Fold5
  • Galaxy Z Flip5

Visual VoiceMail is not available for all smartphones.

To check if Visual Voicemail is installed or available for your smartphone, 

  • Android device: Check if you see the Visual Voicemail toggle option in the Voicemail settings of your Phone app.
  • Apple device: Check the iOS Software version:  it must be iOS 18 release or higher.

To activate Visual VoiceMail and find out if it's available for your smartphone:

  1. For Android Device, mobile data or Wi-Fi connection is required.
    For Apple Device, mobile data connection is required.
  2. Call 1969.
  3. Press 3 to change settings.
  4. Press 6 to activate/deactivate Visual Voicemail.
  5. Press 1 to enable Visual Voicemail for your mailbox.
    • Android devices: tap the Phone icon. Go to Settings > Voicemail. Activate Visual Voicemail by tapping the on-off switch.
    • Apple devices: send a SMS with the word "STATE" to the short code 19691. The SMS is free of charge.
  6. Restart your smartphone.

Visual voicemail is now activated on your smartphone.

  1. Press the Phone icon on your smartphone.
  2. At the bottom of the screen, tap the Voicemail icon.
  3. The message list is displayed.
  4. Tap the message of your choice. You can listen to, share or delete this message. You can also send a text message or block the sender.

Please note: unheard messages are stored on the server for only two weeks.

  • Error message Can’t activate Visual Voicemail

    Visual Voicemail is not available. Make sure there is a Voicemail activated for your number and check if the Visual Voicemail feature is enabled for this Voicemail.

  • Error message Can’t update Visual Voicemail, Message can’t be played or Couldn’t load Voicemail

    The smartphone has probably no data connection. Please check your connection to data. For Apple devices, mobile data connection is required.

  • Voicemail tab does not appear in Phone App

    Visual Voicemail is not available. Make sure there is a Voicemail activated for your number and make sure you have activated Visual Voicemail , 

For Apple devices:
  1. Call 1969.
  2. Press 3 to change settings.
  3. Press 6.
  4. Press 1. To deactivate

To re-activate later again, the complete Activation process should be executed again.

For Android devices:
  1. Tap the Phone icon on your device
  2. Go to Settings -> Voicemail
  3. Deactivate Visual Voicemail by tapping the on-off switch
  4. To re-activate later again, it is sufficient to activate again the Visual Voicemail by tapping the on-off switch on your device
