Internet of Things (IoT)

Internet of Things (IoT)

Data exchange between machines, applications and objects

We offer you all the necessary building blocks for a customized Internet of Things solution.
LoRa® (Long Range) is a network that transports small quantities of data between objects and systems with ultra-low power. If you are interested in IoT our experts and partners will help you look for the right combination of LoRa and existing M2M (2G/3G/4G), Bluetooth and Wi-Fi solutions. The scope of the project will be defined to allow us to develop a successful business case. The implementation will be fully supervised by us. We will then offer continued support to companies to ensure the successful realization of the projects.

IoT applications

  • Analysis of the air quality in a building, the temperature, humidity, frequency of use of specific rooms (e.g. toilets), energy consumption, etc.
  • Stock management in the transport sector and in depots to make it easier to find goods, establish when they arrived, how many arrived, etc.
  • Smart meters for electricity, gas and water, so that you only send your maintenance people when it’s really necessary.
  • Monitors for the volume in glass containers to optimize collection routes and times.

Advantages

LoRa®

  • Easy installation, by integrating a small sensor (without a SIM card or wiring) into an object.
  • LoRa® sensor and battery with a long life (5-10 years) and low cost.
  • Two-way connection allowing a device to send and receive data in order to carry out certain actions.
  • Good security thanks to triple encryption and the possibility to have Proximus store the data.
  • Proximus offers a reliable network thanks to its years of experience.
  • Moving objects can remain perfectly connected.

M2M

  • With a SIM card using 2G/3G/4G.
  • Ideal for sending large quantities of data, e.g. surveillance cameras or real-time tracking in which several transactions are carried out per minute.
  • Roaming worldwide.

LoRa® coverage in Belgium

LoRa® currently covers 10 major cities in Belgium: Brussels, Ghent, Charleroi, Antwerp, Liège, Namur, Louvain, Mons - La Louvière, Ostend, Zeebrugge and Tournai - Mouscron.

By the end of 2016 there will be national coverage.

Solutions

Proximus offers a complete end-to-end solution, which consists of three building blocks.

Sensors

Proximus is not specialized in making hardware and has no intention in becoming so. Therefore, we have spent the last few years to build a unique eco-system of partners that do possess that expertise. We help these partners become certified and test their solutions. This allows us to identify the ideal partner to assist us in creating the custom application our customers desire.

Network

Supplying a stable and robust network is something Proximus has done for years and now we aim to do this for all types of IoT applications. By thoroughly analysing the needs and wants of our customers Proximus is able to supply the ideal solution through its unique offering. Unlike any other Mobile Network Operator, we can offer any type of network and thus advise our customers in the most objective way possible.

Application

Companies can connect as many objects as they want, this does not mean that those objects are smart. For objects to become smart they need to be connected and companies actually need to do something with that data. To do so Proximus has developed a unique IoT platform, which allows users to visualize their data as well as integrate it into their backend processes. This is crucial to any IoT solution and it is where the value is created.

How can you start with IoT?

You are a user
  • Contact us via the contact form.
  • First conversations: in an explorative conversation our experts analyse how IoT can improve your company. In addition the scope of the project will be defined and how a successful business case can be realized.
  • Bringing the players together: within our strong ecosystem of partners the ideal players will be identified to contribute to the project. Afterwards a workshop will be set up to determine what level of integration will result in the highest level of optimization.
  • Roll-out of the project:
    • Concept phase: during this phase the IoT infrastructure and application will be tested as well as visualized. Frequently evaluation conversations will occur, after which changes will be done and analysed.
    • Complete integration: dbsed on the predefined scope of the project a complete roll-out of the project will occur. Naturally the collaboration will not stop here and clients can continue to count on follow-up and customer service.
You are a partner
  • First explorative conversations: our experts will hold a conversation with the potential partner to analyse his solution and what he wants to achieve through the partnership. Afterwards the possible types of connectivity and IoT platforms will be discussed.
  • Clearly define the solution: based on the needs and wants our experts will propose a way of working together. Over time the technical and business collaboration will be evaluated and based on this evaluation clear arrangements will be defined.
  • On boarding on the IoT platform: first a partner contract will be signed, where after network specific hardware (SIM cards or sensors) will be sold and the on boarding on our IoT platform will take place. Naturally the collaboration will not stop here and clients can continue to count on follow-up and customer service.
You are a developer
  • Buy a development kit: more information about this development kit can be found on the website of Proximus EnCo. This allows a developer to take its first steps in the promising world of IoT.
  • Explorative conversation and additional aid: the Proximus EnCo team will help developers on their way and discuss current projects. This allows them to put those that are doing similar projects in contact with one another.
  • Future prospect: eventually an analysis of the project will be conducted how to proceed with the project. Developers will be able to offer their solutions on an online marketplace and integrate certain solutions of Proximus and other members of the Proximus EnCo community.
