Surf faster by changing the Wi-Fi channel

Do you have a poor Wi-Fi connection? It may be because different wireless networks near you use the same Wi-Fi channel (and therefore the same frequency) as you. Change the Wi-Fi channel of your modem to improve your Internet connection. 

Automatically, via the Proximus Home Optimizer app (recommended)

Download and install Proximus Home Optimizer free of charge via the Playstore.

Play Store for Android devices, 4.2 or higher

  1. Press on Connect to WiFi. Connect to your Wi-Fi network at 2.4 GHz. The name of your Wi-Fi network is indicated on a sticker at the back of your modem, next to the word SSID. The password of the Wi-Fi network is also on the back of your modem, next to the words Wireless key or Passphrase.

  2. In the app's menu , press on MyProximus Login and log in with the MyProximus login and password.

  3. Press on Start WiFi analysis. The best channel will be chosen automatically.
When you want to optimize your Wi-Fi connection again, simply press on Start WiFi analysis. 

Why no Home optimizer app on iPhone and iPad?

The security protocols of the iPhone and iPad do not allow for the moment to offer an iOS version of the Home Optimizer. However, you can manually change the wi-fi channel of your modem. Apple also offers tips for improving Wi-Fi for iOS and Mac devices.

How to change the Wi-Fi channel of your b-box 3?

Change the Wi-Fi channel of your modem to improve your Wi-Fi network. Per default, your b-box 3 chooses automatically the best channel when you start surfing. If your connection becomes slow during your surf session (e.g. because you neighbours use the same channel), you can select manually one of the 12 other channels that are available.

  1. Surf to your modem's configuration menu at http://192.168.1.1 with a recent Internet browser.
  2. Enter the user name and password of your modem then click the Login button.
    For the user name, select User in the Username dropdown menu.
    For the password, type the one that you will find on a sticker on the back of the modem, next to the word User Password.

  3. Click the Wi-Fi network that you are using, e.g. Wireless 2,4 GHz.
  4. Select another channel in the dropdown menu at the right side of Channel. Channels 1, 6 and 11 will offer you the best result.
    NB: in some cases, you need to click the link Advanced in the Access Point section to make this dropdown menu appear.

  5. Click the OK button at the bottom of the screen.

Check that the chosen signal gives a better Wi-Fi network. If not, repeat the steps above to try another channel.

How to change the Wi-Fi channel of your b-box 2?

Change the Wi-Fi channel of your modem to improve your Wi-Fi network. Channel 1 is used per default, but you have the choice between 13 channels.

  1. Surf to your modem's configuration menu at http://192.168.1.1 with a recent Internet browser.
  2. Type the serial number of your modem. You will find it on a sticker on the back of the modem, next to the word S/N. Click then the button OK.

  3. In the left column, click Advanced Settings then Wireless.
  4. Select another channel in the dropdown menu at the right side of Channel. Channels 1, 6 and 11 will offer you the best result.

  5. Click the Apply button at the bottom of the screen.

Check that the chosen signal gives a better Wi-Fi network. If not, repeat the steps above to try another channel.
