Identify your Pay&Go card

By law, all prepaid cards must be identified. If your top-up card is not identified, you will not be able to call, text or surf.

Attention: Would you like to use a prepaid card for your tablet, computer, alarm clock, oil-fired or gas boiler, lawn mower, elevator or any other type of equipment? Then you must also identify this prepaid card.

When should you identify your Pay&Go card?

  • Do you have a prepaid card with automatic top-up or a blocked subscription? If so, your card is already identified and you don't have to do anything.
  • Do you have another prepaid card? In that case, you will need to identify your prepaid card.

Not sure whether your card has already been identified? You can easily check this via MyProximus.

Did your prepaid card change owners? In that case, you have to change the identification. This is not necessary if the card switched from you to a family member for whom you stand surety (a parent, grandparent, child, grandchild, sibling, cohabiting partner, or a ward).

You no longer use your prepaid card? In that case, you have to cancel the identification within 24 hours via our customer service. If you don't, you remain responsible for the top-up card.

How do you identify a Pay&Go card?

There are several ways to identify a prepaid card. You can identify your own prepaid card, but you can also identify the prepaid card of a family member (but from that moment on you will stand surety for the prepaid card).

Want to identify yourself?
  • Surf to proximus.be/identify. There, you can identify yourself in two ways:
    • Via your electronic identity card: select the eID option and follow the steps. Choose this option if you have an ID card reader and the PIN code of your identity card.
    • Via a top-up: select the Payment option and follow the steps for topping up the Pay&Go card via Bancontact.
  • Visit a point-of-sale. Remember to take your identity card with you.
Want to identify a family member? (Parent, grandparent, child, grandchild, sibling)
  • Surf to proximus.be/identify. There you can identify a family member in 3 ways:
    • Via your electronic identity card: select the eID option and follow the steps. Choose this option if you have an ID card reader and the PIN code of your identity card.
    • Via a top-up: select the Payment option and follow the steps for topping up the Pay&Go card via Bancontact.
    • Via MyProximus: select the MyProximus option and follow the steps. Choose this option if you have a personal mobile subscription and are the administrator of a MyProximus account.
  • Send a text: text the following message to 8804 (toll-free): IDENT + the number to be identified entered twice, e.g. IDENT 0470123456 0470123456. This option is only available if you have a personal mobile subscription.
  • Visit a point-of-sale. Remember to take your identity card with you.

Done? We will send you an e-mail, letter, or text to confirm that the identification was successful, both on the identified number and to the person who carried out the identification (if applicable).
