Call, text and surf abroad

You’re going abroad and don't want to worry about your usage? By consulting your rates and options in advance, you'll spare yourself a lot of costs.

Consult your rates

Roaming is when you use your mobile or tablet abroad. Note: If you call or text a foreign number while in Belgium, this is an international call and international rates apply. From Belgium, you can call and text a foreign number more cheaply with an international option.

With MyProximus, you can keep track of your usage and choose when you receive free text alerts about your usage.

You can't call, text or surf, or don't have a network? Problems with your mobile phone abroad are often easy to resolve.

You are travelling ...

In the EU

In the EU

You can use your calling minutes, texts, mobile data, and favorite app just like in Belgium, in the following countries:

Åland Islands, Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, French Guiana, Germany, Gibraltar, Greece, Guadeloupe, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malta, Martinique, Mayotte, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Réunion, Romania, Saint-Barthélemy, Saint-Martin, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sweden and United Kingdom.

You can use the Proximus TV application in the same countries except Lichtenstein, Iceland and Norway (which are not part of the European Union but of the European Economic Area).

If you're in Belgium, your usage is always taken out of your bundle. This bundle is now also valid within the European Union, regardless of your rate plan. A few examples:

  • You're in Italy and you call a restaurant in Italy. These calling minutes are deducted from your bundle.
  • You're in Croatia and you call Belgium. These calling minutes are deducted from your bundle and the called person pays no extra costs.
  • You're in France and are tweeting or using Facebook. The mobile data used will be deducted from your bundle.
  • You're in Spain and someone calls you or you receive a text message. Nothing is taken from your bundle because, just like in Belgium, this service is free of charge.
  • You're in Belgium and you call Portugal. You pay the international rate because this is an international call.

Is your bundle used up? In the EU, you pay the same price as in Belgium for calling, texting, and surfing when you exceed your bundle.

If you have used up your calling minutes, you can call more cheaply in the EU with Daily Travel Passport or Travel Passport Top, starting from a number of minutes per day or per month.

To avoid high costs, we limit your out-of-bundle surfing usage abroad to €60. This surfing limit can be disabled in MyProximus, but don't forget to reactivate it after your stay. Read our tips for cheaper surfing to limit your data usage. Is your data bundle used up? You can:

Exceptions and border zones

Your bundle is not valid in Andorra, the Channel islands (Guernsey, Jersey & Man), Monaco, San Marino and Switzerland. You pay roaming costs to call, text and surf or to receive calls. Received texts are free of charge.

For cheaper calling, texting, or surfing, you can take an option (except in San Marino):

Close to the border with these countries? Your device can switch over to the network of these countries, which means extra costs. To avoid this, activate the call, text and surf only within the EU barring. Alternatively, choose your own network abroad. For example, you are close to the Swiss border in Italy: by manually setting Vodafone Italy, you only connect with this network without any extra costs. Note: if you change this setting, you'll have to choose a network in each country.

Air and boat travel

Your device always chooses the best network. Usually, there are no transmission masts on a boat or in a plane, so your device may switch to an expensive satellite connection. To avoid this, set your device to airplane mode ( Icoon voor vliegtuigmodus) and only switch it on again when you are on land.

Does your tour operator offer Wi-Fi? Disable mobile data and, if you're an iPhone or iPad user, also disable Wi-Fi assist. Connect to Wi-Fi with your operator's network data.

Outside the EU

Outside the EU

Outside the EU, you cannot make use of the bundle you get for calling, texting and surfing in Belgium. You pay roaming costs to call, text or surf, but also to receive calls. Received texts are free of charge.
