When is a direct debit settled?

When is the money debited from your bank account when you pay your bill or payement statement by direct debit? That depends on the type of bill you have:

A bill or payment statement without transfer order

Do you have a bill or payment statement without a red bank transfer form?

  • In the case of payment by direct debit, the amount is debited from your account two days before the payment due date. The payment due date is 15 days after your bill or payment statement is issued.

For example, your bill or payment statement is issued on the 10th day of the month. Then it must be paid by no later than the 25th (payment due date). The amount will therefore be debited from your account on the 23rd.

A bill with transfer order

Do you have a bill with a red bank transfer form?

  • In the case of payment by direct debit, the amount is debited from your account on the payment due date. The payment due date is 14 days after your bill is issued (billing date).

For example, your bill is issued on the 10th day of the month (billing date). Then it must be paid by no later than the 24th (payment due date). The amount will therefore be debited from your account on the 24th.

The exact payment date is also indicated on your bill or payment statement: "Your financial institution is requested to transfer this amount to our account on [date] ..." or "The amount will be debited from your account on [date] ...". Make sure that there is enough money in your account on that date, otherwise you run the risk of incurring a reminder fee for late payment.
