Fargo is a gem for movie buffs. The series is based on the Coen Brothers’ 1996 film classic of the same name which won two Oscars: for best original script and best actress. The atmosphere and photography of this 10-part series are every bit as good as in the successful film. Action, black humor, and drama guaranteed!
Teens and adults
Like the film, this Netflix Original series is set in the snowy town of Fargo. The storyline is different however. Here, the protagonist doesn’t kidnap his wife but gets a hit man to teach an old bully from the past a lesson. But he didn’t count on the investigative skills of police officer Molly Solverson ...
Fargo manages, in 10 episodes, to continue on from where the original movie left off 15 years previously. The dark humor and numerous action scenes make it an exceptional crime series with a cynical undertone. Actors such as Billy Bob Thornton, Martin Freeman, Kate Walsh (from Grey’s Anatomy and Private Practice) and Bob Odenkirk (from Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul) provide the typical Coen character depth. This series deserves all the praise it has received!
Lester Nygaard is a failed insurance salesman. His wife, who has fallen out of love with him, constantly compares him to his brother, a successful businessman. One day, he encounters an old classmate who always used to bully him and receives a few blows from him again. In hospital, he meets contract killer Lorne Malvo. What Lester doesn't know is that this encounter will turn his whole life upside down.
The second season is a prequel to the first season. In 1979, a young Lou Solverson (now a restaurant owner) works as a police officer in Sioux Falls. When he returns from Vietnam, he starts to investigate the local mob. This brings him in contact with Ronald Reagan (Bruce Campbell), who is campaigning to become President of the United States. Even funnier than the previous season!
