That's why in January 2014 we began to roll out vectoring on our copper connections. Together with Nokia, a pioneer in this technique, we have increased the available bandwidth by many tens of percent, in many cases even doubling or tripling it.
This higher bandwidth translates into better and faster services for customers: with vectoring you obtain an ultra-fast Internet connection just like that. You can also download at much higher speeds now. In optimal conditions, even line speeds of up to 100 Mbps are possible. To give you an idea, this allows you to download a whole film in HD quality in just five minutes.
Best of all, you don't have to make any adjustments in your home. All you need is a b-box 3 modem.
Every house in your street has a separate copper wire, which runs from a street cabinet where all the wires are neatly bundled together. But sometimes the wires cause interference for each other. It's comparable to having trouble following a conversation when you’re in a crowded, noisy room.
Vectoring addresses this problem. It removes the interference, increasing the bandwidth. We'll save you the technical details, but it’s like having a special headset which allows you to listen to music in optimal fashion because the background noise is filtered out.
The aim is to make vectoring available to all our customers. The progressive roll-out of vectoring, which began in 2014, has been spread out over several years. Today, most street cabinets are already equipped with the vectoring technology, and the aim is to finalize the roll-out in the spring of 2017, so all 26,000 street cabinets will be equipped with vectoring.
With our VDSL2 vectoring network, we'll be the first in the world to have rolled out this technology nationwide.
