Smart building: model of energy transition
Published on 04/01/2019 in Customer Stories

What role can smart buildings play in the transition to sustainable energy? BESIX uses a battery and its electric vehicles to establish an energy buffer for its new head office in Dordrecht so as to optimize consumption.
Added value for the end user
With a view to the importance of a lower carbon footprint and companies’ need to decentralize and digitalize, BESIX aims to inspire by acting as a smart buildings pioneer. “Thanks to the Proximus LoRa technology and the development of a smart energy reserve, our buildings only take up the energy required to meet users’ actual needs. It’s unprecedented added value in this age of energy transition,” says Bart Gentens, Senior Manager, new & improved client solutions, at BESIX.

Looking further than the building
The construction sector is evolving rapidly. For BESIX, the challenge is to place real estate in a broad, innovative context. “Our sector is changing quickly. These days, as well as construction we are involved in many other real-estate related disciplines. From design and development to operation, maintenance and financing. So we can look much further than the construction of a building. And we can excel in creating sustainable solutions,” Bart explains.
