No foreign travel without mobile data at Van Bavel

E-mails and the Internet don’t stop at a country’s borders. To remain accessible when abroad while also controlling costs, Van Bavel relies on Proximus’ Shared Data Roaming Pack, with variable mobile data volume as required. The objective? Be able to respond within 24 hours to any request, even from the other side of the world.

A free cocktail shaker with your bottle of liqueur, a coffee mug with a company’s new logo, a magazine offering a set of glasses as a collectible: the chances are high that you’ve already come across one of Van Bavel’s corporate gifts or promotional products at some point in your life. We met the manager of the company, Jacques Van Bavel.

Travelling to suppliers

Most articles are produced in China, where Van Bavel has its own procurement office. In addition, Van Bavel visits numerous trade fairs looking for new trends and products. “Besides myself, there are two other colleagues who regularly travel abroad”, says Jacques Van Bavel. Together, they visit suppliers in China and Hong Kong, but also Turkey and Eastern Europe.

An alternative to poor connections

“While on business trips, we want to remain reachable”, Jacques Van Bavel explains. “We work in a very competitive sector which means we need to react quickly.” When a customer has a query, Van Bavel replies with an offer within twenty-four hours. “When we’re traveling abroad, we can’t afford to wait until the evening, when we’re back at the hotel, to deal with the day’s emails. In addition, the local connections are often of poor quality and in some hotels you have to pay for a wi-fi connection.” It’s why Van Bavel went looking for a solution to access e-mails and the Internet via their smartphone without being charged the roaming costs, which can quickly mount up.

Switching between Europe and the world

Proximus suggested to Van Bavel they use a Shared Data Roaming Pack. This is a flexible solution letting co-workers of a company share a volume of roaming data. “You can adjust the volume on a monthly basis,” Jacques Van Bavel says. “After that there is no further individual activation required.” This offers two benefits: we remain completely reachable for our employees and customers wherever we are and we keep our costs under control. In this way, we never find ourselves facing unpleasant surprises.
