Charting the position of 3,050 trailers at 71 sites

Logistics companies face the logical yet far from easy task of locating their vehicles in real time. For H.Essers and its thousands of vehicles, the solution lies in a combination of Bluetooth technology and the LoRa network.
Need to establish the position precisely
Digitalization is nothing new for logistics giant H.Essers. However, the technology has to be adjusted in line with each situation. “Our fleet of vehicle consists largely of tractors and trailers. On the road, GPS technology is used to determine their position. But when they reach one of our 71 sites, the trailers are usually detached and parked. So we need a very precise means of location, accurate to within a meter,” says H. Essers CIO Erik Lamoral.

When Bluetooth and LoRa work together
The solution for the problem of scale at H.Essers is as simple as it is ingenious. The trailer is fitted with a sensor that receives the Bluetooth signal transmitted from a station on the site. “The parking place is located immediately thanks to the Proximus LoRa network. So our operators save valuable time and that benefits the profitability and transparency of the information provided to the customer,” Erik confirms.
