Fiber enables interconnection of Hygea's 25 sites

Richard Mikut, IT Development Manager for Hygea, is pleased with the investment in Fiber. In addition to the benefits of speed and connectivity, Fiber means it is easy to intervene anywhere remotely if requested.

In the case of Hygea, the intermunicipal environmental management company for the Mons-Borinage-Centre region, fiber has in particular solved the problem of slowness at certain sites. But technology has also opened up other opportunities, including the offshoring of services and servers. But that work has not yet been completed.

"The interconnection between the various sites will make it possible to develop VoIP telephony in the future. The work will become more fluid and it will be easier to reach us. The speed of the connection will make it easier to intervene. There will be new benefits for the public too with new services," says Richard Mikut, IT Development Manager at the intermunicipal environmental management company Hygea.

Fiber saves time, travel and is good for the planet!

Fiber has connected the 25 sites that in turn allows for the optimization of administrative and operational tasks impacting the daily work of a hundred or so staff. Not to mention the public directly.

"Before we had no view of the remote equipment so intervention was difficult or impossible. At the recycling parks, for example, if something goes wrong, we have to intervene quickly so as not to block the flow. Fiber saves time, travel and is good for the planet!"

Richard Mikut is responsible for IT at Hygea, the intermunicipal environmental management organization for 24 municipalities in the Mons-Borinage-Centre region.

“Fiber has been particularly useful in facilitating working from home during the Covid pandemic”, states Dirk Van Den Broeck, project manager at Belloy Elektrotechniek.
