Agora opts for security and efficiency

Comments

Agora Group in Kontich is Belgium’s biggest wholesaler for flowers, plants and accessories for florists and garden centers. They always like to stay ahead when it comes to security.

“Our product purchasing and identification, planning, sales via our e-shop and logistics rely on IT systems that have to be available all the time,” says IT manager Ruud Endeveld. Precisely because IT is so critical for its business,   Agora pays particular attention to security: “All data traffic in our webshop is encrypted and passes through an external and an internal firewall. In addition, we have a smart web filter and an antivirus solution, among other things.”

Focus on core tasks

“But security is about more than protecting against attacks from outside,” Ruud Endeveld continues. “It’s vital to teach our staff how to deal with these threats.” At the same time, Agora does not see IT security as a core task. “First and foremost, we are a wholesaler, not an IT company. That’s precisely why we have outsourced the practical side of the IT infrastructure – management and security.”

In addition, his small IT team cannot follow all the developments in security. “That, too, is a role that Proximus takes on,” Ruud Endeveld concludes. “Proximus gives us advice on solutions that we might only have discovered later on – if at all.”
