7 WhatsApp tricks you probably didn't even know about

Are you, too, completely into WhatsApp for messages and phone calls to friends and family? Rightly so! There are a whole host of hidden and less hidden ways of getting the most out of each day. After all, WhatsApp regularly releases new features. I went in search of seven of these, which you'll most likely find useful. Check it out!

1. Share your location live with your besties

It’s always the same problem; losing one and other on the festival grounds. Or not knowing exactly where one friend is, whether she's still on her way. No more! Because on WhatsApp you can let others keep track of where you are: for half an hour, two hours or eight hours.

How (in Android)? Tap the paper clip at the bottom of the screen > "Location" > "Share live location".

How (in iOS)? Tap the plus sign at the top left > Location" > "Share live location".

2. WhatsApp Web, for use on laptops

When at work, are you constantly grabbing for your smartphone to check messages? Be prepared for the inevitable comment from your boss. But now you can also simply open WhatsApp in the web browser on your laptop. Nice and sneaky!

How? On your laptop, go to web.whatsapp.com > In the app, click the three dots at the top > Click on "WhatsApp Web" > Scan the QR code on your laptop screen.

3. No more info for strangers

Ever considered that everyone can see all sorts of information about you via WhatsApp? As long as they have your number they can see when you were online last. Plus your profile photo, info and status. But hey, you can easily disable all that.

How (in Android)? Tap on the three dots at the top right > "Settings" > "Account" > "Privacy" > "Who can see my data".

How (in iOS)? At the bottom right, tap on "Settings" > "Account" > "Privacy" > "Who can see my data".

4. And no more blue ticks

Without doubt the most irritating feature on WhatsApp is that others can see when you've read the messages. And then they complain when you don't answer them. So disable the blue ticks! However, do bear in mind that if you do so you won't be able to see those of your contacts either.

How (in Android)? At the top right, tap on the three dots > "Settings" > "Account" > "Privacy" > uncheck "Read receipts".

How (in iOS)? At the bottom right, tap on "Settings" > "Account" > "Privacy" > uncheck "Read receipts".

5. Send out invitations

Want to send an e-mail to invite people for the next birthday party? That's so 2005. You can do it just as well via WhatsApp. And without having to set up a group chat for it. They call this option "Broadcast lists".

How (in Android)? At the top right, tap on the three dots >"New broadcast list" > Select the lucky invitees > At the bottom right, tap on the green button.

How (in iOS)? In the bar at the top, tap on "Broadcast lists" > "New list" > Select the lucky invitees > "Create".

6. Put chats on mute

Sometimes you've had enough of all that whatsapping. Especially with group chats with a lot of people, when your phone seems to be vibrating all the time. Even at night. You can disable those notifications for 8 hours, a week or even a year.

How? Go to the chat itself > Tap on the name at the top > Activate "Mute notifications".

7. Use mobile data sparingly

If you have a small data bundle, you need to use each MB with care. And you'll want to download videos, for example, only over a Wi-Fi network. Or when abroad, you’ll preferably not want to download anything at all. You can fix that too in WhatsApp.

How (in Android)? Tap on the three dots at the top right > "Settings" > "Data and storage usage".

How (in iOS)? At the bottom right, tap on "Settings" > "Data and storage usage".

But that last tip is not really necessary.  Because with Epic beats you have unlimited mobile data throughout the EU, for WhatsApp and all other major social media apps.

So get ready for unlimited WhatsApping, Snapchatting and Messengering of GIFs and crazy video clips! Plus follow your friends non-stop on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Pinterest. Both at home and while away on holiday.
