Enable or disable cookies

Cookies are small files used to make your life easier, but they are also used for technical reasons.

  • Permanent cookies are there for your convenience, e.g. to remember the chosen language on a website.
    Permanent cookies are automatically deleted after a set period, usually one month.
  • Session cookies are there for technical reasons, e.g. to protect an online order.
    Session cookies are automatically deleted as soon as you log off or close your Internet browser.

You need to accept cookies in order to log into MyProximus, to place an order online, etc. The way in which to activate or not activate cookies depends on your Internet  browser: 


Internet Explorer

How do you activate or deactivate cookies in Internet Explorer?

The way in which to configure cookies depends on your device: whether it is a mobile phone, tablet or PC.

  1. Open Internet Explorer, click the 3 little dots at the bottom right of the screen and then click Settings. Next, you have 2 possibilities: 
    • If you have Windows Phone 8: click Advanced settings. Handle cookies as you see fit in the Cookies from web sites section.
      • To accept all cookies: select Accept all.
      • To accept cookies from the sites you have visited and block those coming from other sites: select Block some.
      • To block all cookies: select Block all.
    • If you have Windows Phone 7: select or unselect the Accept cookies on my telephone box.
  2. Close, then restart Internet Explorer so that the changes can take effect.

Internet Explorer on a PC
  1. Click Tools > Internet options in the menu bar at the top left.
    If you don't see the menu bar at the top left, press the Alt key on your keyboard (to the left of the space bar).

  2. The Internet options window will open with several tabs: General, Security, Privacy, etc. Click the Privacy tab.
  3. Move the vertical cursor to choose a Medium level of privacy and then click the Advanced button.

  4. The Advanced privacy settings window will open.
    1. First, select the box Ignore automatic cookie handling . 
    2. Next, handle cookies as you see fit.
      Internet Explorer distinguishes between 3 types of cookies: 
      • First-party cookies are cookies from sites you have visited.
      • Third-party cookies are cookies coming from other websites.
      • Session cookies  are cookies which are automatically deleted when you end your visit on a website.

      Select either the Accept box or the Block box to accept or reject cookies. If you select the Prompt box, Internet Explorer will ask your consent each time a website tries to send you a cookie, which occurs quite often.
    3. Finally, click the OK button to confirm your changes and close the privacy settings window.

  5. Close the Internet options window which has remained open, and click the OK button.
  6. Close, then restart Internet Explorer so that the changes can take effect.

Firefox

How do you activate or deactivate cookies in Firefox?

The instructions below apply to Mozilla Firefox on a PC or Mac.

  1. Open the Firefox options.
    • On a PC: click Tools > Options in the menu bar at the top left.
      If you don't see the menu bar at the top left, press the Alt key on your keyboard (to the left of the space bar).
    • On a Mac: click Firefox > Preferences in the menu bar at the top left.
  2. The Options window will open with several tabs: General, Tabs, Content, Applications, Privacy, etc. Click the Privacy tab.
  3. In the Storage rules drop-down menu, select the option Use custom settings for history.
  4. Handle cookies as you see fit.
    • To accept all cookies: select the Accept cookies box, also select the Accept third-party cookies box and then click the OK button.
    • To accept cookies of the sites you have visited and block those coming from other sites: select the Accept cookies box, unselect the Accept third-party  cookies box and then click the OK button.
    • To block all cookies: unselect the Accept cookies box, unselect the Accept third-party cookies box and then click the OK button.

  5. Close the Options window which has remained open, and click the OK button.
  6. Close, then restart Firefox so that the changes can take effect.

Chrome

How do you activate or deactivate cookies in Chrome?

The instructions below apply to Google Chrome on a PC or Mac.

  1. In the menu bar at the top left, click Tools and then Options (PC) or click Chrome and then Preferences (Mac).
  2. Click the Advanced options tab.
  3. In the Privacy section, click Content settings. Handle cookies as you see fit.
    • To accept all cookies: select the Accept local data storage box (recommended), unselect all the other boxes and then click the OK button.
    • To authorize cookies from the sites you have visited and block those coming from other sites: select the Accept local data storage box (recommended), also select the Block cookies and data from third parties  box and then click the OK button.
    • To block all cookies: unselect the Accept local data storage box (recommended) and then click the OK button.
  4. Close, then restart Chrome so that the changes can take effect.

Safari

How do you activate or deactivate cookies in Safari?

The way in which to configure cookies depends on your device: whether it's an iPhone, iPad or Mac OS.

Safari on iPhone or iPad

The instructions below apply to all versions of Apple Safari on iOS for iPhone or iPad.

  1. In the menu of your iPhone or iPad, click Settings icon and then Safari icon.
  2. The settings options for Safari will then appear.Manage cookies as you see fit in the Block cookies section.
    • To accept all cookies: select Always accept.
    • To authorize cookies from the sites you have visited and block those coming from other sites: select Accept only visited websites. 
    • To block all cookies: select Always block.

  3. Close the Settings window.
  4. Close, then restart Safari so that the changes can take effect.

Safari on Mac OS

The instructions below apply to Mac OS (Mac computer), for all versions of Safari.

  1. In the menu bar at the top left, click Safari > Preferences...
  2. A window will open with the Safari options.
  3. Go into the Security tab and handle cookies as you see fit.
    • To accept all cookies: select the Always box.
    • To accept the cookies of the sites you have visited and block those coming from other sites: select the Only from sites I visit box.
    • To block all cookies: select the Never box.
