Firstly, keep your computer, smartphone or tablet up to date. Install updates for anti-virus programs, operating systems and browsers as quickly as possible. If necessary, enable the automatic update function.
Don't write down your passwords or codes anywhere. Many people still hang a post-it with their passwords next to their computer, note down their codes on their card reader, or even keep a note with their passwords in their wallet. Don't do this! Choose strong, non-obvious passwords and change them regularly, as well as your PIN codes.
You’ve probably already received false e-mails from a financial institution. Usually, the senders ask you to update your personal data (often but not always in broken English). Don't fall for this trap. No large bank would request this information by e-mail – or even over the telephone! Malevolent people attempt to obtain codes and other personal data through so-called phishing e-mails.
At home, you probably use a secure Wi-Fi network. The chances of fraud in that case are minimal. But we advise you to avoid using public networks (in public places such as libraries or hospitals) for online banking. It's better to switch to 3G or 4G and use your bank's app.
Do you spot something suspicious while banking online? Does a window suddenly look different, or are you asked to enter your code at a strange moment? In that case, close your browser and contact your bank branch. It could just be a simple update, but you never know.
