ANPR

Trajectory monitoring is a method to monitor the average speed of vehicles based on different measurements. The system works with ANPR technology (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) and in addition to speed measurement also offers Number Plate Recognition, e.g. of flagged cars. Brasschaat was the first town to choose smart cameras on Flemish regional roads which are part of a pilot project which ultimately will result in a fixed ANPR network.

Mentality change

There have been several fatal accidents on the road in question. Trajectory monitoring has brought about a mentality change of drivers within just a few weeks: drivers no longer only brake when they see a speed camera, the effect is longer. In addition to Brasschaat, the town of Brecht has also launched trajectory monitoring on a regional road. 11 other installations will soon be added.
